In a move aimed at easing the financial burden on its candidates, the ruling NRM party will pay the Shs3 million nomination fees for all its parliamentary aspirants ahead of this week’s nominations.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has announced that it will cover the nomination fees for all its parliamentary flagbearers across Uganda, giving a significant boost to its aspirants.

The decision was communicated through a letter from NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong to district party chairpersons.

According to the letter seen by Nilepost, the NRM will pay the Shs 3 million nomination fee for each parliamentary flagbearer.

Todwong said the move underscores the party’s commitment to supporting its candidates and ensuring a strong presence in Parliament.

“By covering the nomination fees, we aim to level the playing field and enable our flagbearers to focus on their campaigns,” Todwong stated.

“Our party is committed to ensuring candidates have the necessary resources to compete effectively in the upcoming elections.”

Parliamentary nominations are scheduled to take place this week. The NRM’s decision follows a similar announcement by the Democratic Front, which pledged to fund nomination fees for its parliamentary aspirants.

These moves highlight a growing trend among Ugandan political parties to provide financial support to candidates during the electoral process.
